What changes the price
- Door type and size: roller, sectional or tilt, single or double
- Manual or automatic, and the opener model
- Parts needed, such as springs matched to the door's weight, cables, rollers or panels
- Access, headroom and the condition of the frame the door fixes to
- Wind-rated doors and any extra framing they need
- Urgency, such as a car stuck inside or a door that will not close
- Removal and disposal of an old door, and any electrical work for a new power point
Where these figures come from
Most rows are estimates published by What's The Damage? in October 2026, a cost guide run by Focus Search Pty Ltd. It says its figures are cross-referenced against more than 90 Australian trade pricing sources, and its Brisbane page shows the same ranges as its national page. The site also sells listings to tradespeople. The door-only row comes from B&D's price guide, which calls its figures "an indicative guide only" and excludes installation. An older Airtasker repair cost guide, updated 6/11/2023, put typical spring repairs at $110 to $200 and cable repairs from $150.
None of these are Toowoomba prices. Use them to judge whether a quote is in the expected range, not as a quote. Rows marked "Typical range, confirm with provider" have no reliable published figure, so we show no number.
How the rows match the services:
- Minor repairs and track work relate to garage door repairs and roller door repairs.
- Springs and cables relate to spring and cable repairs.
- Motors and remotes relate to motors, openers and remotes.
- New doors relate to new doors and installation.
Repair or replace: a rough comparison
If a repair quote is a large share of the price of a new door, ask for both prices. For example, a spring pair at the upper published estimate of $550 plus a new opener at $1,000 comes to $1,550, which sits inside the published range for a new single automatic roller door, installed ($1,200 to $3,500). The age of the door, whether parts are still made and how it handles wind also matter.
Comparing quotes
- Ask for itemised quotes: parts, labour, any call-out fee, remotes, and removal of the old parts or door.
- Check what the warranty covers for parts and labour, and whether servicing conditions apply.
- Compare like with like: the same door type, size, opener and wind rating.
- For work over $3,300, ask for the QBCC licence number, check it on the free register at my.qbcc.qld.gov.au (QBCC), and expect a written contract.
- Electrical work, such as a new power point, needs a licensed electrician (Electrical Safety Office).
- Be wary of large upfront cash payments. On regulated contracts, deposits are capped at 10% for work over $3,300 to $19,999 and 5% for work of $20,000 or more (QBCC key information guide).
Storm, hail and vehicle damage
If a storm, hail or a vehicle damaged the door, your home or car insurance may cover some or all of the repair, depending on the policy. Contact your insurer before repairs if you plan to claim, and ask the technician for photos and an itemised quote. This site does not give insurance advice.
